What is COHOPE?
The Council of Homeowner Organizations For a Planned Environment (COHOPE) is a coalition of homeowner's groups and individuals formed in the early 1980's as a forum to distribute information to its members, help foster communication between government entities, developers, Homeowner Associations and individuals. At the time the founders felt that homeowners were being left out of the loop between developers and government, and felt a union of HOA's and concerned individuals could address issues and inform both sides.
Membership includes about 30 homeowners groups of varying sizes, along with as 10 or so individuals from unrepresented areas. Dues are $15-50 per year, depending on the size of the member group. Dues are used to distribute newsletters, hold candidate forums and fund various community events.
COHOPE is a member-oriented organization. Members bring up issues or concerns at monthly meetings. Speakers generally include the policy makers that effect South Jefferson County - this includes the County Commissioners, state legislators, the Sheriff's Department, Foothills Park and Rec, and Jeffco Public Schools - to name a few.

In August in lieu of our monthly meeting we host our Annual Picnic held at Clement Park. Political candidates and incumbents are invited to speak and mix with the members. This tradition has been one of our best events for years.
In December in lieu of our meeting is our annual Christmas Party, usually held at a brave volunteer’s house.
Additional meetings have been scheduled in the past for seminars, forums (candidate and issue), and special presentations.
COHOPE is foremost an information dissemination group. In addition to the topics presented by various speakers from government, business and local organizations, its members have many years of experience in dealing with homeowner issues. They are more than willing to share that experience and support both members and non-members in helping on an issue, from rezoning to dealing with neighborhood issues. Most homeowner groups encounter the same problems, issues and concerns.
